Mahima Chaudhry, known for her breakout role in the 1997 film “Pardes,” emerged as a prominent figure in Bollywood during the 1990s. Born on September 13, 1973, in Darjeeling, West Bengal, she initially dreamed of becoming a model, despite her family’s hopes that she would pursue a career as an IAS officer.
Her journey began with television commercials, gaining recognition through a popular ad featuring Aamir Khan and Aishwarya Rai. This exposure led to opportunities as a video jockey on music channels, where her modeling assignments multiplied.
Director Subhash Ghai noticed her talent and encouraged her to adopt the stage name Mahima Chaudhry. This marked the beginning of her film career, which took off spectacularly with her debut in “Pardes,” where she starred alongside Shah Rukh Khan.
