Disciplinary action has been taken against a Chhattisgarh constable after his video of him dancing in uniform went viral. This clip, which has received praise online, has sparked a new debate on professionalism and discipline.
The police department has taken action after a viral dance reel of a policeman surfaced in Bilaspur district of Chhattisgarh. Constable Devanand Kaivartya posted at Masturi Police Station has been attached on the line at Bilaspur Reserve Center on charges of dancing in uniform. In the video, he is seen dancing with his wife on the Sambalpuri song “Hai Rani, Hello Rani”.
Interestingly, after the disciplinary action, this reel became even more popular and many people praised it online. However, senior officers believed that recording such content in uniform was wrong. Bilaspur SSP Rajnesh Singh ordered an inquiry into the matter, in which it was found that this act was a violation of departmental discipline and professional standards.
Debate arose on uniform and discipline
While talking to the media, SSP Singh stressed that the police uniform is a symbol of respect and authority, with which there is a responsibility attached at all times. He said that being in uniform means you are on duty, and making a reel for entertainment dilutes the seriousness that is expected. He said, “The mood of this reel does not match the discipline of the uniform.”
Officials confirmed that Kaivartya had made other videos in the past as well, but no objections were raised against them. However, this time the matter went beyond limits. The investigation found that this act is against the dignity of the force and the uniform cannot be used for personal entertainment or social media content.
The SSP also said that if there is any motivational or contextual content in the uniform then perhaps there would be no objection to it, but such reels can weaken public trust. He warned that the increasing trend of reeling in uniforms is a matter of concern and will be dealt with strictly.
