Wayne Madsen Retirement: In a North Group match in England’s domestic tournament T20 Blast, Derbyshire Falcons registered a one-sided and explosive victory against Leicestershire Foxes by 7 wickets. This match was very special for Derbyshire’s experienced player Wayne Madsen, because he had announced his retirement from domestic T20 cricket before this match. The team players turned their 189th and last T20 match into a memorable farewell with victory. During this, he bid farewell in a unique way.
Wayne Madsen’s unique entry on the field
This match was full of emotions for 42 year old Wayne Madsen. When he came on the field at the beginning of the match, his fellow players gave him a guard of honour. Then he also took two brilliant catches during the powerplay. Later, when he came out to bat, the players of the opposing team Leicestershire also gave a guard of honor to honor him. The special thing was that when Wayne Madsen came out to bat, his wife and two children also came with him from the dressing room to the boundary line. Who won everyone’s heart.
However, Madsen could not do anything special with the bat and was bowled after scoring 2 runs on the ball of Rehan Ahmed. But his domestic T20 career was quite brilliant. He scored 5770 runs in 232 matches, which included 36 half-centuries and 2 centuries. Out of these, he scored 5110 runs in the T20 Blast tournament. Wayne Madsen is one of only seven players to complete 5000 runs in the history of T20 Blast.
Derbyshire Falcons’ one-sided victory
In this match played at Ourkop County Ground, Derbyshire won the toss and chose to bowl first. Pakistan’s fast bowler Akif Javed gave the best performance of his T20 career while bowling dangerously and took 4 wickets for 23 runs. Leicestershire had a very bad start and the team lost 6 wickets for 92 runs. In times of such crisis, Ashton Turner played captaincy innings. Turner played an explosive inning of 79 runs in 43 balls, due to which Leicestershire scored 171 runs for 8 wickets in 20 overs. The batsmen of Derbyshire Falcons, who came to chase the target of 172 runs, proved this score to be quite dwarf. The team had scored 69 runs in the powerplay itself. Then the target was achieved after losing 3 wickets in 14.3 overs.
