Delhi government is carrying out 1,510 development works in JJ clusters at a cost of Rs 441.10 crore. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that lakhs of people will benefit from facilities like roads, sewers, drinking water, street lights, community toilets and Atal Canteen.
The millions of people living in Delhi’s slum (JJ) settlements may see a major expansion of basic amenities in the coming months. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has said that the Delhi government is carrying out large-scale development work in various JJ clusters of the capital, so that people can get a safe, clean and better living environment.
The Chief Minister said that a total of 1,510 development works have been approved through the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) during the years 2025-26 and 2026-27. About Rs 441.10 crore will be spent on these projects. Apart from this, separate development works are also being carried out through the general budget and other departments of Delhi Government.
Which features will be the most focused?
According to the government, these projects include construction and repair of community toilets, improvement of drinking water and sewerage system, development of streets and internal roads, repair of drains, strengthening of street lights and electricity system, construction of boundary walls and entrance gates, development of rain water drainage system and beautification of public places. The government says that the objective of these works is not only to create infrastructure, but also to provide a dignified and comfortable life to the families living in slums.
These areas will get priority
JJ settlements of Narela, Timarpur, Adarsh Nagar, Jahangirpuri, Azadpur, Bawana, Rohini, Seemapuri, Trilokpuri, Shahdara, Karawal Nagar, Sangam Vihar, Dwarka, Najafgarh and many other areas of the capital have been given priority for development works. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that the government aims to strengthen basic civic amenities in every slum of the capital, so that the everyday life of the people becomes safer and more convenient than before.
Atal canteen will also be expanded
The Chief Minister also informed that Atal Canteens are being constructed in many assembly constituencies of the capital to provide nutritious food at affordable rates to the needy people. The government believes that affordable and nutritious food along with basic facilities will prove to be an important step towards improving the living standards of the urban poor.
