Kusal Mendis: The same player who was banned 5 years ago for violating rules is now going to become the captain of the team. He will take charge of the ODI and T20 team. Now the official announcement of the bus board is awaited in this regard. There is a report that the Sri Lanka Cricket Board has decided to make Kusal Mendins the captain of the ODI and T20 team. The reason for this decision of the Sri Lankan Cricket Board is being said to be the current form of Kusal Mendis and his recent performance.
Mendis will take over the captaincy from West Indies tour – report
According to the report of The Sunday Times, Kusal Mendis will be given the captaincy of the ODI and T20 team from the West Indies tour. As ODI and T20 captain, he will replace Charith Asalanka in ODI and Dasun Shanka in T20. In view of the busy schedule and to bring stability in the team, Sri Lanka Cricket Board has decided to appoint a captain in both the white ball formats. Apart from this, Dhananjay de Silva will remain the captain of the Test team.
When Kusal Mendis was banned for 1 year
Kusal Mendis is the same player who was banned for violating the Covid-19 protocol on the England tour in 2021. Along with him, Niroshan Dickwella and Danushka Gunathilaka were also banned. These three players were then banned from international cricket for one year. But, now after 5 years the same Mendis is going to become the captain of Sri Lanka’s ODI and T20 team.
Mendis scored 550 runs in PSL 2026
It is being said that the Sri Lanka Cricket Board has considered making Kusal Mendis the captain after seeing his performance in the Pakistan Super League 2026. Kusal Mendis was the second most successful batsman in PSL 2026 after Babar Azam. He scored 550 runs for Peshawar Zalmi in 11 innings at an average of 55.
