The incident of churning of the ocean has great significance in mythology. When the gods and demons together churned the ocean, many miraculous things came out of it.
But not only good and auspicious things came out of this churning. Some such terrible and destructive powers also came out from it, seeing which both gods and demons trembled.
Three of these things were so dangerous that the gods had categorically refused to even touch them. Let us know the secret of those three terrible gems that came out of the churning of the ocean.
Dangerous poison named Kalkoot
The first thing that came out at the beginning of Samudra Manthan was a terrible poison named Kalakoot. This was not an ordinary poison, but due to its heat and smoke all three worlds started burning.
The effect of this poison was so strong that both gods and demons started running away to save their lives. No god or demon had the courage to even touch this poison.
Then Lord Shiva came forward to protect the creation. He took this Kalakuta poison in his hand and drank it completely. Mother Parvati pressed Shiva’s throat and prevented the poison from entering his stomach, due to which his throat turned blue and he was called Neelkanth.
Origin of Varuni i.e. liquor
During the churning, another thing emerged from the depths of the ocean, which the gods completely refused to accept. This thing was Varuni, which is called liquor or wine.
When Varuni came out of the sea, she appeared as a goddess. He was completely a force promoting intoxication and vengeful tendencies. The gods knew that consuming alcohol destroys the intellect and humans or gods deviate from their right path.
Therefore, the gods having pious conduct refused to touch Varuni. At last the demons came forward and happily accepted this wine.
Jyeshtha means goddess of poverty
When Goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity, appeared from the churning of the ocean, everyone was happy. But very few people know that just before Goddess Lakshmi, her elder sister also emerged from the sea.
Her name was Jyestha, who is also known as Alakshmi, Moodevi or the goddess of poverty. Jyestha’s appearance was very scary and as soon as she appeared, sadness and poverty started spreading all around.
