What is the measure of success in the film industry? There can be many answers to this because it has many criteria. But if we use a universal yardstick, then it can be decided on the basis of box office that how successful a film was. But with just one dialogue from the South, the standard of this scale became high. And it happened so high that its tremendous impact was seen in the year 2023.

When films in Bollywood started earning Rs 100 crore, it was considered a big parameter. Aamir Khan’s Ghajini, Salman Khan’s Dabangg and Shahrukh Khan’s Ra One crossed the Rs 100 crore mark and surprised everyone. For the past decade, earning Rs 100 crore was a major measure of the success of films. But after this things were not the same as before. And behind all this there is only one dialogue. This one dialogue from the South changed the entire earning equation of the film industry.
What is that dialogue after all?
Talking about this dialogue, it was a question. A question which initially made everyone uneasy, but when its answer came out, there was a race to witness it. It seemed as if the festival had started in the theatres. A huge crowd of people started running towards the theatres. This question was- Why did Kattappa kill Baahubali? This one question raised the bar of box office even higher. The matter reached from Rs 100 crore to Rs 1000 crore within 10 years. The world is aware of what happened after this.

How much did Baahubali earn?
When SS Rajamouli’s film Baahubali was released, the film made great collections. For the first time, a South film had increased the curiosity of the Hindi belt audience on such a large scale. The film did well and its lifetime collection was Rs 650 crores. This film came in the year 2015. Bahubali 2 came 2 years after the release of the film. During these years, there was only one question in the minds of the people of the country that why did Kattappa kill Bahubali. And when the answer came, it proved to be a boon for the Indian film industry.
How much did Bahubali 2 earn?
The first part of the film had good collections and became the highest grossing film of that time. Apart from this, the second part earned even more money. People’s eyes were wide eyed with such earning, their mouths were left open and this was the only time when this one dialogue raised the standard of box office. The second part of the film earned Rs 1030 crore in India. On the other hand, the film collected Rs 1788.06 crore worldwide.

After this it became crazy
When Sachin Tendulkar scored 200 runs in ODIs a decade and a half ago, no one thought that this could happen or would happen again and again. But after Sachin, till now more than 200 runs have been scored in an innings about 10 times. So, the Baahubali film did the same wonders that Sachin had shown in ODIs at the box office and records were created one after the other.

How is the condition of the box office today?
On the same lines as the foundation laid by Bahubali 2, today the garden of South and Bollywood box office is blooming and smelling great. Take the year 2023 only. This year, there were 5 films which collected more than Rs 500 crore in Hindi language and made 2023 memorable forever. After Bahubali 2, Yash’s KGF Chapter 2 earned 1215 crores, RRR 1230 crores, Jawan 1160 crores, Pathan 1055 crores, Gadar 2 686 crores, Animal 888 crores and 2.0 earned 745 crores. These figures only show how high the standard of measuring the success of films has become today.
