What do the students appearing for NEET want?
- A student from Delhi termed this decision of NTA as a positive step and termed it as a good step. But at the same time the demand for a complete investigation into the paper leak that took place in the preliminary examination held on May 3 has also been reiterated.
- “It is a good step, but the main focus should be on the real root. Those who are involved in leaking the exam papers should be identified,” the student told ANI.
Students from Indore to Kota put forward another demand?
- Monica, a student from Indore, advocated banning other social media platforms also to prevent paper leaks in future.
- Monica told ANI, “…students work very hard to pass these exams… The government is right to ban Telegram till the exams are over, because leaked news spreads quickly online.
- To prevent paper leaks, other such platforms can also be banned for some time…”
- Students from Kota, Rajasthan also expressed similar sentiments. A student demanded joint regulation of other social media platforms to prevent similar paper leaks.
- A student said, “…they have taken a good step. After the paper leak, this step of NTA may prove to be right. The government and NTA should together regulate other social media platforms as well.”
- Another student from Kota expressed doubt over the move, saying that merely banning Telegram would not have much impact as many students depend on this platform for free study material.
Just banning Telegram is not the solution
- The student told ANI, “…other social media platforms should also be monitored, and there should be strict scrutiny on them. NTA should be aware of this. Just banning Telegram will not help much, as many students use it for free study material…”
What is NTA’s plan regarding NEET?
- Earlier, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has restricted access to the Telegram platform in India for a limited time till June 22, 2026. This also includes the day of re-examination of NEET (UG) 2026 and the time immediately thereafter.
- The ban has been imposed to address the specific manner in which the platform has been used to fabricate false evidence of “paper leaks” following incidents in relation to national examinations.
