Telegram Ban: Government vs Telegram: Will the whole game be overturned? The breathing of 15 crore users stopped, what will the court do now? The crisis on Telegram deepens, but there is still a twist in the story? Telegram closed… or a comeback? Waiting for the High Court’s decision
New Delhi): Instant messaging platform Telegram has moved the Delhi High Court against the temporary ban on its service in India. The Central Government has ordered to stop the functioning of Telegram till June 22 due to the re-examination of NEET-UG 2026. On Monday, lawyer Madhav Khosla demanded an immediate hearing on the matter before the vacation bench of Justice Tejas Karia. The court agreed to hear this petition later in the day. In such a situation, the eyes of the users are fixed on the decision of the court. Because many feel that the court will overturn the government’s decision.
Telegram ban affects 15 crore users
According to lawyers associated with this case, this temporary ban has affected more than 15 crore users of Telegram in India.
The Center had given this order on the request of the National Testing Agency (NTA). NTA had alleged that some organized cheating gangs are using Telegram for the NEET-UG re-exam to be held on June 21. Through this they are misleading the candidates and cheating them.
Telegram access closed
Following the government’s directive, telecom operators reportedly started blocking access to Telegram, while the app was also removed from major app stores. The government has described this move as a temporary and targeted measure aimed at preventing paper leaks and related scams ahead of the re-examination.
Is it the right decision of the government to shut down Telegram?
- Telegram founder Pavel Durov has criticized this ban order. He said that the platform has already removed hundreds of channels on which content related to the paper leak and scams were allegedly being shared.
- Durov said that this ban is affecting millions of ordinary users and illegal activities will shift to some other platform.
- NTA justified its decision saying that it was necessary to ensure a fair and safe examination process. The agency also said that this ban is for a limited time and will be lifted after the re-examination.
- Now it is expected that the Delhi High Court will examine the legal validity and necessity of this decision of the government. Besides, its impact on users and digital communication services will also be examined.
