Why Telegram is Banned Before NEET UG Re Exam 2026: The decision of the Central Government to impose a temporary ban on Telegram just before the NEET-UG 2026 re-exam has become a topic of discussion. The National Testing Agency (NTA) says the move has been taken to curb fake “paper leak” rumours, cyber fraud and organized cheating networks related to the examination. How long will Telegram be banned?
Before the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination to be held on June 21, it has been decided to temporarily ban Telegram services till June 22 and stop the message editing feature till June 30. NTA claims that some channel administrators used to edit old messages and add question papers after the examination and then made it viral as “evidence of leak”.
Who suffers the most from Telegram ban?
Over the past few years, Telegram has emerged as a major digital study hub for students. Lakhs of students preparing for NEET, JEE, UPSC, SSC and board exams use Notes, PDF, Test Series, Daily Quizzes and Discussion Groups here. Many students preparing for NEET rely on Telegram channels for final revision, important notes and doubt clearing before the exam. In such a situation, the sudden ban can cause problems even to those students who have no connection with any kind of wrong activity.
NTA’s logic: Safety first, convenience later
NTA believes that the credibility of the examination is more important than any temporary inconvenience. According to the agency, in recent months, complaints had surfaced on several Telegram channels of allegedly selling question papers, making claims of fake leaks and duping students of thousands to lakhs of rupees. In the action of cyber agencies and state police, many such networks have been caught which were targeting students through false promises. In such a situation, control over the platform during the examination period is being seen as a security measure.
Telegram ban is a big blow to cheaters, but honest students will also have to face inconvenience.
Experts believe that the ban will have a direct impact on those networks which were running the business of fake paper leaks and cyber fraud through Telegram. However, the flip side of this is that millions of legitimate users and serious students will also be away from their favorite study material for a few days. That is, there will be loss to both parties, but the nature of the impact will be different. This action can prove to be a big blow for cheaters, while for honest students it is only a temporary inconvenience.

NTA has appealed to the students not to trust any claims like “paper leak”, “100% question paper” or “exam guarantee”. Get every information related to the exam only from the official NTA website and official notice. At present the message is clear, the government and NTA are in a mood to take strict steps to save the credibility of the examination. Although the next few days may be challenging for students studying on Telegram, maintaining the credibility of the examination system remains the priority of the agencies.
