BRS leader KT Rama Rao said the World Bank has recognized Telangana as an upper-middle-income economy. He attributed this to former CM K. Chandrashekhar Rao and described it as an international testament to his administrative excellence.
Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president KT Rama Rao (KTR) on Wednesday said the World Bank’s recognition of Telangana as an ‘upper-middle-income’ economy, BRS chief and former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao (KCR) has received international recognition for his visionary leadership and administrative excellence.
Referring to this latest recognition, KTR said that Telangana has joined the World Bank’s ‘upper-middle-income’ category with a per capita income of Rs 4.19 lakh (US$ 5,407) for the financial year 2025-26. Telangana is one of only five states in India to achieve this feat. According to a party release, he said this spectacular achievement reflects the extraordinary economic transformation that Telangana has achieved under the leadership of KCR in the last decade.
Economic transformation of Telangana under the leadership of KCR
KTR emphasized that the World Bank’s seal of approval on Telangana’s economic progress is not just a statistical achievement, but an international endorsement of KCR’s vision, commitment and governance model. He reminded that Telangana, which had suffered decades of neglect before its formation, has transformed its economic fortunes within just ten years to become one of the fastest growing and most prosperous states of India.
He said that unlike other states, which enjoyed industrial and economic advantages for a long time, Telangana has achieved this position through visionary leadership, bold reforms and innovative governance.
Historic initiatives laid the foundation of development
He highlighted landmark initiatives like TS-iPASS, which revolutionized industrial approvals and attracted unprecedented investments. Along with this, he also mentioned major programs like Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project, Mission Kakatiya and Rythu Bandhu. According to him, these initiatives laid a strong foundation for inclusive growth, agricultural development, industrial expansion and better employment opportunities across the state.
According to the release, KTR said it takes a reformer to challenge the status quo, it takes a skilled administrator to deliver extraordinary results, and it takes a true visionary to change the fortunes of a state. He remarked that these qualities define KCR’s leadership and stressed that the World Bank’s recognition is further proof that Telangana’s development model has achieved global credibility.
KTR targeted Congress government
Criticizing the Congress government, KTR slammed Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to immediately stop portraying Telangana as a bankrupt state in an attempt to hide his government’s failure to fulfill its election promises. He said repeated attempts to portray the state as being in financial crisis have been completely exposed by internationally recognized economic indicators.
KTR reiterated that the World Bank’s accreditation once again confirms that Telangana is built on the strong economic foundation laid during the tenure of the BRS government. He said the people of Telangana clearly understand the difference between a government that has led the state on the path of progress through vision and performance and one that wants to hide its failures through misinformation.
