Tejasvi Surya achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first Member of Parliament to complete the IRONMAN event.
The Bharatiya Janata Party politician, who is the elected Member of Parliament from Bangalore South constituency, took part in the event in Goa.
The fourth edition of IRONMAN 70.3 Goa was inaugurated by notable figures including Race Ambassador and tennis legend Leander Paes. Other dignitaries present were Tejasvi Surya, Founder & CEO Yoska, and Race Director Deepak Raj. Ganeshan V S, Director of Marketing at Herbalife India, also attended the event.
Previously, Surya participated in a relay team in 2022, completing 90 km of cycling. This year, he surpassed his past performance by finishing the entire swim, cycle, and run segments with an impressive time of 8:27:32.
IRONMAN 70.3 Goa Highlights
At Miramar Beach, former IRONMAN champion Bishworjit Saikhom from the Indian Army reclaimed his title in the 2024 IRONMAN 70.3 Goa. The 32-year-old athlete had previously won the inaugural edition in 2019 with a time of 4:47:47 but couldn’t retain his title in subsequent editions. After intensive training, Bishworjit achieved his personal best time of 4:32:04 to secure victory in the Men’s category.
In the Women’s category, Yasmin Halawa from Egypt emerged victorious with a time of 5:22:50. She gained an early lead during the cycling stage and maintained it till the end. Joining her on the podium were Karin van Leersum from the Netherlands with a time of 5:44:39 and India’s Ketaki Sathe who finished at 5:51:05.
Participants Showcase Determination
Around 1,200 participants took part in this challenging event at Miramar Beach. They demonstrated remarkable sportsmanship as they tackled a gruelling course consisting of a 1.9 km swim, followed by a 90 km cycle ride and concluding with a 21.1 km run.
The determination displayed by all participants was commendable as they strived to earn the prestigious title of IRONMAN. The event not only tested their physical endurance but also highlighted their unwavering spirit and dedication to sportsmanship.
