Ryan ten Doeschate has stepped down as the assistant coach for the India men’s cricket team following their recent white-ball tour in England.
According to Cricinfo, ten Doeschate told the BCCI about his decision while still in the UK, where India lost both the T20 and ODI series. He is now expected to take on a coaching role with the IPL team Shah Rukh Khan’s Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

How did he originally join the India coaching staff?
Ten Doeschate, the former captain of the Netherlands cricket team, joined India’s coaching staff when Gautam Gambhir took over as head coach after the 2024 T20 World Cup win. Gambhir chose him directly to help coach the team’s batters and fielders.

Who will he be working with at Kolkata Knight Riders?
At KKR, Ten Doeschate will team up again with Abhishek Nayar. The two previously worked together as assistant coaches for both the Indian national team and KKR.
What is his history with Shah Rukh Khan’s KKR?
The Dutch coach has been connected to Kolkata Knight Riders for over ten years. As a player, he helped KKR win IPL titles in 2012 and 2014. He returned as the team’s fielding coach in 2022 and helped them win another IPL trophy under head coach Chandrakant Pandit in 2024. He left KKR later that year after the BCCI hired him for the Indian national team.
During the same time, the team struggled in Test cricket. India lost the Border-Gavaskar Trophy during their tour of Australia. They then lost two series at home, getting swept 3-0 by New Zealand and 2-0 by South Africa.
