After losing the T20I series against Ireland and England, vice-captain Tilak Verma has expressed confidence of a comeback ahead of the Zimbabwe series. He said that the team is focusing on learning from past mistakes and implementing its plan better and gaining momentum.
Harare [जिम्बाब्वे]July 21 (ANI): After suffering a 2-0 defeat in the T20I series against Ireland and then a crushing 4-0 defeat at the hands of England, Indian T20I team vice-captain Tilak Verma believes that the Indian team is in a good position to bounce back. He also stressed the importance of quickly adapting to the conditions ahead of the first T20 match against Zimbabwe.
Reflecting on the lessons learned from India’s recent T20I series defeats against Ireland and England, Tilak Verma stressed that the team’s focus now is on executing its plans better and regaining the winning momentum. The current T20 World Cup champion team is going through a difficult phase in the shortest format and has not been able to register a single win in its last seven matches. India lost both T20Is against Ireland, followed by a 4-0 clean sweep of the five-match series against England.
Verma said, “To be honest, there is a lot to be learned from the last series. And we are just looking forward now, and we want to stick to our basics and do well in the upcoming series. In this series, we will execute the plans well and play our best cricket. We want to get that momentum back.”
Tilak spoke on new faces and strike rate in the team
For added strength, India have also included three new faces in the T20I squad, including fast bowlers Yash Thakur and Ashok Sharma as well as explosive opening batsman Prabhsimran Singh. The left-handed batsman also addressed the discussions surrounding his strike rate and reiterated that his approach is based on the needs of the team in different situations rather than individual statistics.
He further added, “In this game, you have to bat at different places, and especially in such conditions it is not easy. Also, I always say that I do what is required for the team. If I have to stay and play for the team, I stay and play. If I have to hit, I hit and play.”
