A laborer from Bihar died and seven others were injured in a boiler explosion at a metal factory in Tiruvallur, Tamil Nadu. Police and rescue teams are at the spot and more people are feared trapped under the debris. The injured have been admitted to the hospital.

Tiruvallur (Tamil Nadu) [भारत]July 14 (ANI): A worker was killed and seven others were injured in a boiler explosion at a private metal factory in the Gummidipoondi SIPCOT industrial complex in Tamil Nadu’s Tiruvallur district on Tuesday, police said. This factory is near Partha Palayam village.

Identification of the dead and injured

According to Tiruvallur police, the deceased has been identified as Ravi Ranjan, a resident of Bihar, who died on the spot due to serious injuries sustained in the blast. Police said that four injured laborers Bhushan Kumar, Om Kumar, Ranjit Kumar and Simbar Singh have been admitted to the government hospital in Gummidipoondi for treatment. All of them are residents of Bihar and Madhya Pradesh.

Three other labourers, Raja Babu, Ranveer Kumar and Friends Kumar, have been shifted to a private hospital in Chengalpattu near Chennai. All of them are from Bihar.

Prince Kumar, another laborer who was seriously injured in the incident, has been taken to a private hospital in Chennai for better treatment.

Fire under control, rescue operation continues

Following the blast, a fire broke out in the factory premises, following which fire and rescue services department teams began operations to control the fire. Police said two fire teams from Gummidipoondi and Chipkat fire stations brought the fire under control after about two hours of effort.

Search and rescue operations are underway with fire brigade personnel under the supervision of Gummidipoondi Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sasidharan. Officials fear that more workers may be trapped under the debris spread in Nalapuram area. Efforts are being made to find out the exact number of people affected by the incident.
