In Malda district of West Bengal, the Salisi Sabha (Panchayat Sabha) issued a Taliban order and publicly tied a couple to a lamp post and beat them up. On getting information about the incident, when the police came to stop them, the local people attacked the police. It is alleged that the angry mob attacked the Inspector-in-Charge of the police station (Along with vandalizing IC’s vehicle, bricks were also thrown at the police. Some policemen were injured in the incident.
The incident took place in Sherpur village of Jalalpur Gram Panchayat area of Kaliachak police station area of Malda district. The incident happened last Tuesday night. This video is going viral in the area.
According to police and local sources, a group of villagers saw a couple in a mango orchard, accused them of having extramarital affairs, caught them, brought them out to the road and beat them severely. After this, as a punishment, the loving couple was tied to electric poles and allegedly beaten brutally.
Police attacked when they went to save couple
As soon as the news was received, the police of Kaliachak police station reached Sherpur village of Jalalpur. The agitated crowd stopped the loving couple from being saved. With this, altercations started between the crowd and the police. It is alleged that suddenly some villagers started beating the policemen. Even the IC’s car was vandalized.
It is alleged that policemen were attacked with sticks and stones. Then IC Suman Roy Choudhary of Kaliachak police station reached the spot with a large number of police forces, but the angry residents also vandalized the IC’s car. Many policemen were injured by bricks and sticks.
The police retaliated by lathi charge and took control of the situation and rescued the love couple and took them to Kaliachak police station. Police have arrested three people in this incident.

Many people attacked the police who were trying to rescue them. Each of them had sharp weapons in their hands. There were bricks and sticks. A policeman was seriously injured after being hit by a brick. A suo motu case has been registered. Three people have been arrested in the case of attack on police.
The victim told the police that she had gone to the bank branch to withdraw money. Then I met that young man on the road, as I already knew him, he was standing on the road and talking. During that time the villagers caught him and started beating him.
