We all have been hearing, watching and reading news, tales and stories of Guinness World Records for the past several decades. Making a place in the Guinness World Records is very special in itself. If someone becomes a part of it by making a world record at the age of just 8, then it is natural to be discussed about it. India’s 8 year old Takshi Vaghani is also in the news for the same reason, who has got a place in the Guinness World Records. Takshi has got this place in a sport which is not famous worldwide like cricket, football or athletics but it has its own world. This game is limbo skating.

8 year old Takshi from India recently made a new world record in limbo skating. He created this world record by crossing the distance of 10 meters at a height of just 16 centimeters. Takshi achieved a special achievement by doing this feat in roller skates. This record was recognized by Guinness World Records and Takshi coming from Gujarat got the official record certificate for it. Takshi saw roll skates at the age of just 2 and started training at the age of 4.

What is Limbo Skating Game?

But is this limbo skating? Obviously this question will arise in the mind because it is not as popular as other sports. Still, there is no dearth of people taking part in it and trying to make records. Actually, limbo skating or roller limbo is a sport which is based on roller skates. This is a little different from normal skating or ice skating. In this too, the task had to be completed while running while balancing on roller skates. But the most important aspect is that it does not have to be done while standing or sitting like normal skating, but with the legs fully extended and the body tilted forward or backward parallel to the ground.

In this position, one has to pass under one or more poles or bars. During this, care has to be taken that the player cannot touch that pole. This is traditionally a skating version of the limbo dance. In this, the flexibility of the body along with the balance of skating is most important. Players usually accomplish this through a full ‘leg split’ and bring the body so close to the ground that the face almost appears to be touching the ground.

Game originated from dance that started from slave ship

Limbo sports is unlike any other sport and has its origins in the traditional Limbo dance. Limbo dance is a special form that tells the history of slavery. This dance is dedicated to the slaves who went to the ‘Slave Ship’, who had to work in that part of the ship where there was very little space. It began in the Caribbean country of Trinidad and Tobago in the late 19th century. On that basis, limbo skating was started in 1998. There is no worldwide championship or World Cup in this, but Guinness World Records have been made through it.
