NSUI workers staged a unique protest at Rani Durgavati University in Jabalpur on Thursday. NSUI (National Students Union of India) workers protested against the University Vice-Chancellor Rajesh Verma and placed a pile of fake currency notes on the Vice-Chancellor’s table. This incident happened when a meeting was going on in the university, in which senior professors and the Vice Chancellor were present. An awkward situation was created in the meeting by blowing fake notes and placing them on the table.
NSUI alleges that the appointment of Rajesh Verma to the post of Vice Chancellor has been done against the rules. Activists claimed that Rajesh Verma had achieved this post on the strength of money. According to him, this appointment is not only a violation of university rules but also against academic and ethical values. NSUI termed Rajesh Verma ineligible and demanded his immediate resignation.
Unique way of performing
During the protest, NSUI workers reached the university with fake notes. He entered the meeting and presented the fake notes to the Vice Chancellor. The purpose of this demonstration was to symbolically highlight the allegations against the Vice Chancellor of ‘obtaining position by paying’. Activists called it against corruption and meritocracy.
What is NSUI’s allegation?
NSUI District President Sachin Rajak said that our demand is that Rajesh Verma should immediately resign from his post. There has been a violation of rules in his appointment and it will not be tolerated. If our demands are not met then we will intensify the movement.
What did the university administration say?
The university management says that the appointment of Rajesh Verma to the post of Vice Chancellor has been done by the Government Act and the Governor. The protesters should first know the rules and regulations, because the appointment has been made under the UGC Regulation Act. If anyone has any objection then he can complain before the High Court or the Governor.
