Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has announced the launch of ‘Clean Air, Healthy Delhi’ project. Rs 8,300 crore will be spent on this 7-year project, which is being run with the help of the World Bank, whose aim is to clean the poisonous air of Delhi.
New Delhi. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Friday announced the launch of ‘Clean Air, Healthy Delhi’ project. This is a seven-year initiative to reduce air pollution, which will be implemented with financial assistance from the World Bank. According to the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), the objective of this project is to accelerate the implementation of Delhi’s Air Pollution Control Plan, advance the goals of the National Clean Air Program (NCAP) and contribute to the vision of ‘Developed India 2047’.
The project will run from September 2026 to August 2033, World Bank will provide 65% funds.
This project is to be implemented in all the districts of the capital from September 2026 to August 2033. Its estimated cost is Rs 8,300 crore. The World Bank will provide 65 percent of the money, while the remaining 35 percent will be borne by the Delhi government. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that a workshop will be organized on July 10 to finalize the preparations for the project and to coordinate between all the concerned parties.
Roadmap will be decided in the workshop on July 10, discussion will be held with departments and World Bank
Officials from different government departments, key agencies and senior representatives of the World Bank will participate in this workshop. They will discuss their roles, responsibilities and roadmap to complete the project on time. CM Gupta said that this initiative will focus on the main sources of pollution, which include vehicular smoke, road dust, construction and demolition debris, solid waste management, industrial smoke, greenery and water pollution. Calling it a long-term investment in Delhi’s future, the Chief Minister said the project is not only aimed at curbing pollution, but also providing cleaner air, better public health and a more sustainable urban environment.
PMU, monitoring system and ICCC will be formed to strengthen air quality management.
The Chief Minister said that this ambitious project rests on two main pillars. First, to strengthen air quality management. For this, a special Project Management Unit (PMU) will be created, advanced air quality monitoring systems will be installed, data analysis and an Integrated Command and Control Center (ICCC) will be created. Also, coordination between departments, scientific planning, public awareness, training and innovation will be promoted.
Strictness on old vehicles, electric vehicles and public transport will get a boost
The second pillar focuses on reducing emissions from the main sources of pollution. Under this, old and highly polluting vehicles will be phased out, electric vehicles will be promoted, the public transport system will be improved and an advanced Pollution Under Control (PUC) monitoring system will be developed.
These departments and agencies will play an important role, the central government will also be a partner.
The CMO said that many departments and agencies will be involved in this project, such as Environment Department, Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC), Transport Department, Public Works Department (PWD), Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), Delhi Jal Board (DJB), Delhi Transco Limited (DTL), Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC), Delhi Traffic Police, Delhi Development Authority (DDA), New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), Delhi Cantonment Board (DCB), DSIIDC, DTTDC, DIMTS and other concerned. body. Apart from this, the Department of Economic Affairs (DEA) of the Government of India and the World Bank will also be the main partners in this project.
Visit to Lajpat Nagar Hospital, government’s focus on strengthening health services
Earlier, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta also visited the construction site of the new block being built at Lajpat Nagar Colony Hospital. He said the government is strengthening the capital’s healthcare infrastructure through digital reforms and better medical facilities. Preparation of digital health system, online appointment and emergency bed platform in Delhi
The Chief Minister said that in the last one year many reforms have been made to improve the health system. He said,
Health is a very important topic. We have been working to improve it for the last one year. There were many problems in this system over the years. Today, we have digital records of all patients in Delhi. For the first time, digital appointments have been started in government hospitals. We are creating a new system under which both private and government hospitals will be connected on a single platform so that information about the availability of emergency beds can be easily obtained.
New digital platform will also be launched for organ donation
The Chief Minister also said that the government is launching a special platform for organ donation.
