West Bengal Crackdown: As soon as he assumed power in West Bengal, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has made his stance clear regarding the law and order of the state. In a high-level meeting held at the State Secretariat ‘Nabanna’ on Monday, the Chief Minister warned the administration in blunt terms that “syndicate raj” and parallel power of mafias will no longer continue in the state. Suvendu Adhikari has prepared a blueprint to run the biggest ever campaign against illegal sand mining, coal smuggling and cattle smuggling.

End of syndicate rule: free hand for police
During the meeting the Chief Minister expressed deep displeasure over the alleged “syndicate” activities operating in various areas of the state. He gave clear instructions to top police officers that no person associated with the syndicate should be spared, no matter how influential he was. The Chief Minister stressed that freeing the general public and businessmen from the terror of these groups is the first priority of the government. The police have also been instructed to demolish the illegal extortion centers running at the local level with immediate effect.

‘Zero tolerance’ policy on illegal mining
The Chief Minister has ordered to adopt a policy of ‘zero tolerance’ on illegal sand and coal mining, which has been a scourge in the border and industrial areas of Bengal for decades. According to secretariat sources, Suvendu Adhikari told the officials that illegal mining is not only draining the state’s revenue but is also proving disastrous for the environment. He has given instructions to conduct immediate raids against illegal mines and seal their transportation routes.
Master plan to destroy cattle smuggling network
Cattle smuggling has been a serious issue in the border districts of West Bengal. The Chief Minister held a special discussion on this issue with police officers and administrative officials of the border districts on Monday. He ordered strict vigil to root out the network of illegal cattle smuggling and put the main leaders of smuggling behind bars. The Chief Minister made it clear that security and surveillance on the borders will be increased manifold so that this stain on the image of the state can be washed away.
Claim of ‘good governance’ free from vendetta politics
Amidst this entire campaign, Suvendu Adhikari said a very important and sensitive thing. He strictly instructed the administrative and police officers that their action should be only against crime and criminals. The Chief Minister asked to ensure that governance remains completely free from “political vendetta”. He assured the officers to work with impartiality and safeguard justice, thereby ushering in a new and transparent work culture in the state.
