Amid rumours that Suryakumar Yadav will leave Mumbai Indians (MI) in a trade deal ahead of the 2027 Indian Premier League (IPL), the former Indian captain hinted that he will stay with the five-time champions as he posted a video of a practice session on his Instagram, as he aims to return to cricketing action, which is expected during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) from November 14. Suryakumar’s clip saw him training at the Reliance Corporate Park in Ghansoli, which is MI’s main training centre.
What caught the eyes of fans on social media was that in the reel that the three-time IPL winner posted, MI’s logo was used in two separate instances.
Suryakumar Yadav Set To Continue With MI?
Suryakumar’s future came into question after his poor form with the bat, which played an important role in MI’s disastrous campaign in the 2026 season, where they finished 9th in the table. He made just 162 runs in 15 innings at an average of 20.25, with two half-centuries.
Suryakumar has been part of MI since 2018 and played a key role in their triumph in 2019 and 2020. He is among the franchise’s greatest-ever players. With 4020 runs in 127 matches at an average of 36.54 and strike-rate of 151.24. He has scored two titles for the franchise.
Suryakumar’s form with the bat has nosedived in the last couple of years. Despite leading India to the 2026 T20 World Cup, he was removed from captaincy and dropped from the team earlier this year. Meanwhile, he was not selected in the Mumbai team for the 2026-27 Ranji Trophy despite making himself available for selection. However, he is set to return to action for the state during the SMAT and could lead the team with regular white-ball skipper Shreyas Iyer currently on national duty.
Suryakumar has not played any professional cricket since the end of the 2026 IPL. However, he took part in the Mumbai Premier League (MPL) in June and has played a few club cricket games over the last month.
