He reminded the team that Pakistan has to be faced not by sledging but by great performance. In this match held at Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Sunday, India won by defeating Pakistan by 61 runs.
This wise move of the captain came to light when BCCI released some videos of the match. Suryakumar Yadav said, “Go to your fielding position in between overs. There is no need to say anything to anyone. We have to play good cricket. We can win this match with our ability and excellent play,” Surya told the players. Before the match, Pakistan team’s threat to withdraw from the tournament and India’s ‘no handshake policy’ were also much discussed. But the captain wanted that there should not be any unnecessary drama on the field.
At the same time, Irfan Pathan has strongly criticized Pakistani player Babar Azam. Pathan mentioned Kohli’s historic innings played against Pakistan in Melbourne in the 2022 World Cup. Pathan said, “Has Babar ever played such an innings under such huge pressure?” How many times has he faced pressure and led the team to victory?
He said, “When wickets were falling continuously, he should have taken the game till the 15th over with singles and doubles. Instead of trying for big shots, Babar should have tried to manage the innings. Babar is struggling to rotate the strike against the spinners. When India had scored 175 runs, the match was out of Pakistan’s hands. The Pakistani batting line-up does not have the strength to achieve such a big target.
