Suriya Addresses ‘Financial Burden’ Due To Karuppu’s Last-Minute Release Delay: Jyotika Was Trusting Me

Suriya’s Karuppu faced a last-minute delay, causing extreme panic among not just the makers but fans too. Eventually, after clearing all hurdles, the film released on May 15 and earned over Rs 300 crore worldwide. Months later, Suriya addressed its delay while revealing that the climax of Karuppu had to be reshot on a tight schedule as director RJ Balaji felt it could have been better. In a recent interview, Suriya credited Jyotika, renowned actress and his wife, for supporting him through the challenges that the film faced.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Suriya spoke about the financial risks he took to bring   to theatres. The actor said one of the most significant pressures was to take additional loans at the last minute. But, Jyotika’s support played an important role in the entire journey. “It was a lot of financial burden on me. It came at the last minute, and for me to take those extra loans, she was trusting me and allowing me to take those loans.”

Jyotika added that it was his unwavering faith in the film.   continued, “Indirectly or directly, the family will suffer for whatever decision I take. That situation was a collective effort.” In the interview, the actor said, “If something goes wrong, as a family, we were going to be facing the consequences together.”

 lauded Suriya’s passion and determination to bring the film to theatres despite the odds. She told THR, “I think it was completely his generosity and him wanting to make the film work. It was a big step and I think he just went all out.”

Suriya also credited Karuppu’s team for going all out with the finances. He appreciated the financiers for being supportive and waiting patiently for its release. The actor further added that they took back 25 to 30 per cent to ensure the film releases.

Not just that, Suriya shared that the climax of Karuppu was reshot six months after the film wrapped. He was in the middle of shooting for   when RJ Balaji suggested a different climax. He was in Chennai and was sporting a clean-shaven look. Within two days, Suriya, Balaji and the team of Karuppu completed the shoot.

“I just prayed to the statue , and said, just guide me… just come inside me and guide me,” Suriya said and further mentioned that the shoot was done with a lot of sincerity and prayers.

Karuppu was scheduled to release on May 14, but on the same day, it was announced that 9 AM shows of the Tamil movie were cancelled due to financial issues from the production house’s end.

Karuppu also featured Trisha Krishnan, Yogi Babu, Natty Subramaniam, Swasika, and RJ Balaji in key roles.
