Sub-Junior & Youth League: Birla Blazers rally to end Charminar’s winning run
Hyderabad: Birla Blazers staged a spirited comeback to defeat Charminar Chargers 45-34 in the Sub-Junior Girls section of the Sub-Junior & Youth League 2026 for Boys and Girls, organised by the Hyderabad District Basketball Association, on Friday.
Birla clinched their 2nd consecutive match win and also broke the 2 match winning streak of Charminar Chargers.
Despite trailing 6-9 after the opening quarter, Birla Blazers capitalised on Charminar’s limited bench strength in the second quarter to outscore their rivals 10-0 and take a 16-9 halftime lead.
Charminar fought back strongly after the break through Aairah and Anika, who combined to score 17 third-quarter points. However, Pranavi starred for Birla Blazers, contributing nine of her team’s 16 points in the period to keep her side ahead 32-26.
Charminar narrowed the gap to four points early in the final quarter, but Amrutha’s crucial three-pointer shifted the momentum before Pranavi and Dishi sealed the victory on fast breaks.
Dishi top-scored for Birla Blazers with 16 points, while Pranavi added 14. Aairah (16) and Anika (12) were the leading scorers for Charminar.
In other matches, Charminar beat Golconda Gladiators 18-15, while Golconda Gladiators defeated Birla Blazers 42-29 in the Sub-Junior Boys category.
