Kolkata (West Bengal) [भारत]July 27 (ANI): Responding to Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi’s criticism of Delhi Police’s action against student protesters, Trinamool Congress MLA Kunal Ghosh said the TMC has repeatedly opposed the action taken against students and farmers. He alleged that the police under Union Home Minister Amit Shah tries to suppress people whenever they demand justice.

Speaking to the media, Ghosh said, “We, Mamata Banerjee and the Trinamool Congress have repeatedly said that we oppose the action taken by the Delhi Police against the students. This is happening again and again…”
Ghosh said, “Whenever the demand of ‘we want justice’ is raised, Amit Shah’s police try to suppress people. When the situation goes out of hand, the Prime Minister gives a message at midnight. Action is being taken against students, action is being taken against farmers. What is this?”
Rahul Gandhi also raised questions
Earlier on Sunday, continuing his attack on the Center over police action against student protesters, Rahul Gandhi sharply questioned Amit Shah over the alleged use of excessive force against protesters in the national capital. Coming soon after the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Gandhi’s remarks focused on police action during the ‘Sansad Chalo’ march led by the cockroach Janata Party (CJP) on July 20.

In a post on Twitter, Gandhi questioned whether Shah had personally approved the use of “lethal force”, including pellet guns and tear gas, against students protesting over the NEET-UG paper leak controversy. Gandhi highlighted the case of 19-year-old student Sahil Lochab, who is reportedly at risk of losing one of his eyes after being hit by pellets.
In his post, Gandhi wrote, “Pellet guns, sticks and tear gas were used against students who were peacefully protesting in Delhi. I met 19-year-old Sahil Lochab. He may have lost one of his eyes due to being shot by pellets. His ‘crime’? Demanding an end to paper leaks and a fair future for our students. @AmitShah ji, I have two questions: 1. Have you heard any incidents including pellet guns against students? Who authorized the use of lethal force? 2. Were the people who beat the students with sticks? Who authorized their deployment?

Gandhi has also written a letter to Shah, alleging that security forces attacked students with “indiscriminate force” and claiming that women protesters were targeted and attacked by police personnel. Describing the action as a “barbaric attack”, Gandhi demanded to know “who had given the order to kill the students.”
Why are demonstrations taking place?
This follows weeks of student protests led by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), which gained national attention after activist Sonam Wangchuk sat on a hunger strike at Jantar Mantar. Tension escalated during the ‘Sansad Chalo’ march on 20 July, where police reportedly used tear gas and lathicharge to disperse a crowd moving towards Parliament. After continuous protests, Dharmendra Pradhan has resigned from the post of Union Education Minister, and Pralhad Joshi took charge as the Union Education Minister on Sunday. (ANI)
