Stock Market today: Sensex, Nifty drop as crude prices surge

Mumbai: The BSE Sensex jumped 404.09 points to 75,611.19 in early trade on Tuesday. The NSE Nifty declined 101.25 points to 23,714.60.

WTI crude futures climbed above $99 per barrel on Tuesday, extending previous session gains as escalating tensions between the US and Iran raised concerns over prolonged disruption in the Strait of Hormuz.

The dollar index moved back above 98 on Tuesday as geopolitical tensions increased after President Donald Trump questioned the sustainability of the US-Iran ceasefire and rejected Tehran’s latest peace proposal.

Gold prices slipped toward $4,700 an ounce on Tuesday, reversing earlier gains as investors focused on rising inflation risks linked to escalating Middle East tensions and the prolonged disruption in the Strait of Hormuz.
