Near the Statue of Unity, Ekta Nagar’s Skill Development Centre is empowering local youth. For Raksha Bandhan, trainees created unique Rakhis, which will be sold at stalls in the tourist area, promoting their skills and self-reliance.
Ekta Nagar: A Hub for Tourism and Youth Empowerment
With the Statue of Unity, the world’s tallest statue, and various tourism attractions developed around it, Ekta Nagar is today emerging as an important tourist destination for visitors from across India and abroad. Along with tourism development, skill development and employment-oriented activities are also being encouraged to connect local people, particularly the youth, with the mainstream of development.
With the objective of achieving this, various short-term skill development training programmes are organised for local youth at the Ekta Skill Development Centre with the support and guidance of the Statue of Unity Area Development and Tourism Governance Authority (SoUADTGA). The Centre is making efforts to provide trainees with the necessary skills in various sectors and connect them with employment and self-employment opportunities.
Raksha Bandhan Workshop Fosters Creativity
At the Ekta Skill Development Centre, special workshops are also organised on the occasion of various festivals to encourage the overall development and creative abilities of the trainees. During a specially organised workshop on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, trainees of the Ekta Skill Development Centre are creating attractive Rakhis in various designs by using their creativity and skills.
Handmade Rakhis Available for Tourists
With the objective of making the attractive Rakhis in various designs prepared by the trainees available to tourists and visitors, stalls for their sale will be set up at the locations in the Statue of Unity area. Stalls will be set up at the Statue of Unity (SoU) Bus Bay Area from August 22 to August 28. Shrestha Bharat Bhavan Parking Area will have stalls from August 25 to 28. Stalls will also operate at the Administrative Complex, Ekta Nagar from August 25 to August 28.
Through this initiative, on the one hand, tourists will have an opportunity to purchase creative Rakhis prepared by local youth during their skill training, while on the other hand, the trainees of the Ekta Skill Development Centre will get a suitable platform to showcase their skills. This activity will also prove significant in promoting skill development, self-reliance and self-employment among local youth.
