SS Rajamouli Drops New Details About Varanasi And The Global Impact Of RRR At CCXP Mexico

S S Rajamouli made a strong impression at CCXP Mexico 2026, where he addressed an international audience and shared insights into his films. From revealing how the Mayan civilisation influenced Baahubali to talking about the global success of RRR, the director spoke about storytelling that transcends borders. He also discussed his upcoming project  , calling it his most ambitious film yet. During his address, Rajamouli revealed an interesting detail about his blockbuster Baahubali. He shared that elements of the film were inspired by the ancient Mayan civilisation. “In my previous film Baahubali, the city center and the throne were inspired by the famous Chichen Itza pyramid,” he said. He also said that his knowledge of Mexican history and culture was limited but expressed a desire to learn more.

Rajamouli also spoke about the worldwide success of RRR, which resonated with audiences far beyond India. Talking on his journey, he said that nothing prepared him for the moment when his stories connected with people across the globe. He said that audiences thousands of miles away were able to laugh, cry, and celebrate his film, proving that universal emotions can transcend language and geography.

During an interaction, S S Karthikeya was asked whether Varanasi would resonate with audiences in Mexico and Latin America, particularly due to shared cultural themes like ancestor worship. Responding to this, he pointed out similarities between Indian storytelling and narratives emerging from Mexican history, including influences from Aztec and Mayan civilisations. He expressed hope that these cultural parallels would help the film connect with international audiences.

Meanwhile, production on Varanasi is progressing steadily. Reports suggest that lead actors Mahesh Babu and Priyanka Chopra recently wrapped up a song sequence. There are also reports about the team planning to shoot upcoming sequences in Antarctica, along with underwater scenes at an Indian studio. The film stars Mahesh Babu as Rudhra, Prithviraj Sukumaran as and Priyanka Chopra as Mandakini Mounted on a grand scale, it includes sequences shot in IMAX and is scheduled for release on April 7, 2027.
