Southern California mayor resigns, will plead guilty to acting as agent for Chinese government

New Delhi: Eileen wang, Mayor of Arcadia, has resigned from her post, as she has admitted in the U.S court for working as an illegal representative of the Chinese government with Yaoning Sun. Legal authorities claimed that Wang and Yaoning “Mike” Sun promoted “pro- PRC propaganda” in the U.S. via a website labelled “U.S. News Centre,” PRC refers to the Republic of China.

Official reports from the U.S. court.

Eileen wang, Mayor of Arcadia, a city of Los Angeles with 56000 citizens in 2022, appeared in Federal court this Monday and was released on a $25,000 security agreement.

The U.S. attorney general said Wang has accepted one count of acting in the U.S as an unauthorised representative of an external government and agreed to admit wrongdoing. Roman Rozhavsky, assistant director of the FBI’s court intelligence and episode division, said in his statement that Eileen Wang has confessed that she was supporting the Chinese government secretly while working as a mayor in Arcadia.

Legal authorities claimed that Wang and Yaoning “Mike” Sun promoted “pro- PRC propaganda” in the U.S via a website labelled “U.S. News Centre,” PRC refers to the Republic of China.

Sun pleaded guilty in October to acting as a foreign agent and is serving a four-year prison sentence, the U.S. Attorney’s office said.

According to the court agreements, Elieen Wang and Yaoning used to get instructions from the Chinese government. One of the biggest allegations from the prosecutors is that a senior officer of the Chinese government in November 2021 asked Wang to add a post and to send a text, “This is what the Ministry of Foreign Affairs wants to send”.

Attorneys have claimed that Wang and Yaoning were in a romantic relationship. She was also operating a media platform that she once operated with someone whom she believed to be her fiancé, they said.
