South Delhi Superstars Triumph Over Central Delhi Queens in Womens DPL Opener

New Delhi, August 21: The South Delhi Superstars secured a significant victory against the Central Delhi Queens by 29 runs in the opening match of the Women’s Delhi Premier League 2026, held at Arun Jaitley Stadium on Thursday.

Batting first, the South Delhi Superstars posted a total of 156 runs, losing 5 wickets. Priya Punia and Nishika Singh opened the innings, contributing 31 runs in just 28 balls for the first wicket. Priya scored 16 runs off 15 balls, hitting 3 fours before being dismissed. The team faced an early setback at a score of 33 when Tanisha Singh was also out for a duck.

From there, Tanisha Singh and Nishika Singh formed a solid partnership, adding 82 runs for the third wicket in 61 balls, bringing the score to 115. Nishika scored 50 runs off 41 balls, including 8 fours, before returning to the pavilion. She finished with an impressive 64 runs off 42 balls, featuring 10 boundaries. Captain Shweta Sehrawat contributed an unbeaten 19 runs.

For the Central Delhi Queens, Mehdavi Bidhuri took 2 wickets for 24 runs, while Sumiti Soni also claimed 2 wickets for just 13 runs. Diksha Sharma added 1 wicket to the tally.

In response, the Central Delhi Queens struggled to reach 127 runs for 7 wickets in their allotted overs. They lost 3 wickets for just 31 runs. Nidhi Mahato and Monica then attempted to stabilize the innings, forming a partnership of 65 runs for the fourth wicket in 54 balls, bringing the team closer to a century.

Monica scored 30 runs off 19 balls before being dismissed, while Nidhi Mahato top-scored with 63 runs off 55 balls, featuring 5 sixes and 2 fours. Unfortunately, no other player managed to reach double digits. Rupali Vishw Mohan and Mayuri Singh each took 2 wickets, while Diksha Nagar also claimed 2 wickets.
