Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has approved a major smart lighting project to make the city’s roads safer and eliminate dark corners.
Taking a major step towards modernizing urban infrastructure, the Delhi government has approved the installation of smart LED street lights in the capital. The initiative aims to improve road safety, reduce power consumption and improve lighting on major roads.
Real-time monitoring will be done from the control center
The most special thing about this project will be its Centralized Command and Control Center (CCC). Through this, every street light can be monitored in real-time and any malfunction or closure will be detected immediately. With this, officials will not have to wait for people’s complaints to fix the problem.
96,000 lights will be upgraded
The government will replace about 96,000 old streetlights, including old high-pressure sodium vapor (HPSV) bulbs and old LED lights. Modern smart LED systems will now be installed in their place. This improved network will cover the highways under the Public Works Department (PWD).
Women, Safety and Road Safety
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that there is no monitoring mechanism in the existing lighting system, due to which many places remain dark. The new smart LED lights will improve visibility, increase safety for women and also reduce the chances of accidents on city roads.
Power saving and better efficiency
Officials said that with the smart lighting system, officials will be able to change the intensity of lighting and monitor the performance while sitting at a distance. This initiative will save around Rs 25 crore annually in electricity bills and is a more efficient and eco-friendly lighting system.
The project will be completed before Diwali
Delhi government has set a deadline to complete the smart street lighting work by Diwali. Officials believe that this program will play an important role in making the capital more safe, illuminated and technologically advanced.
