Small cat enclosure inaugurated in Patna’s Sanjay Gandhi Zoo, zebra brought from Bengaluru

Environment, Forest and Climate Change Department Minister Dr. Prem Kumar and Secretary Bandana Preyishi inaugurated the small cat enclosure at Patna’s Sanjay Gandhi Zoo on Monday. After two years of construction work, this enclosure is completely ready for tourists. It has been constructed at a cost of approximately Rs 3 crore 18 lakh.

This new enclosure has a total of six display areas and 18 night houses, which are better for wild animals. Talking about this enclosure, it has been designed in U shape, so that the animals living there can get adequate natural light and ventilation.

The facilities of tourists were also taken care of

High-quality arrangements have been made to better monitor the living conditions and health of all the animals living in the zoo. The enclosure also has two corrals in which wildlife that are unwell or not on display can be treated and cared for. This not only ensures the safety of the animals living there, but also gives tourists a unique experience of seeing wildlife in their natural habitat.

visitor circulation arrangements

Due to its glass display area, it will be easier for tourists to see the wildlife of small cat species closely. Besides, to manage the crowd, arrangements have also been made for visitor circulation on a single route. At present, this enclosure houses the wild animals of Jungle Cat, Fishing Cat and Leopard Cat. There are plans to introduce other small cat species such as spotted cat, clouded leopard cat and marbled cat into this enclosure in the future.

zebra entered the zoo

Apart from this, it is proposed to introduce other species under the wildlife swap programme. The objective of this project is to make Patna Zoo even more attractive and enriching, so that the tourists coming here can be introduced to new and different wildlife.

Not only this, another important incident happened in Sanjay Gandhi Zoo on this day. A female zebra was living alone here for a year. In October 2024, the male zebra was brought to Patna from Bannerghatta Biological Park in Bengaluru under the wildlife swap program. After the quarantine period, it has now been kept with a female zebra. This step will not only help in increasing the reproductive capacity of zebras, but will also be a new attraction for tourists.
