Skoda Bets on Sedans, Unveils New Slavia, to Bring in Octavia RS, New Superb

Skoda, the Czech automaker, has unveiled its new sedan Slavia even as the Indian market has shifted gears towards SUVs, which account for over 60 per cent of the total cars sold in India.

But the automaker believes there is demand for sedans among the buyers and also announced the return of its top-of-the-line iconic sedan the Octavia RS and the all-new Superb for the Indian market.

While bookings for the new Slavia have started with the down payment of Rs 15,000, its price will be announced later. Deliveries are expected from the beginning of the festive season.

Similarly, the carmaker also announced pre-booking of the Octavia RS and the Superb, which will be delivered in the second quarter of next year.

“India remains one of our most important global growth markets and a great example of what Skoda Auto can achieve when we listen closely to our customers,” said Klaus Zellmer, CEO of Skoda Auto.

“The new Slavia builds on this approach. It strengthens a model that has become a real success story, earning the trust of customers and establishing itself as one of the best-selling sedans in its segment,” he noted.

Zellmer said with a clear strategy and a strong local presence, he was confident that Skoda was writing the next chapter of its growth story in the world’s third biggest but price conscious car market.

“With nearly 80,000 cars sold to date, the Slavia has established a strong position in this dynamic segment,” said Martin Jahn, Skoda Auto board member for sales and marketing.

“The new Slavia builds on these foundations while introducing contemporary styling, advanced technology and enhanced comfort for today’s customers,” Gupta added.
