PM Modi emphasized on ‘Catch the Rain’ campaign in ‘Mann Ki Baat’. Praising water conservation in Madhya Pradesh, he appealed to the countrymen to save rain water and revive water sources.
Bhopal. This time in his monthly radio program ‘Mann Ki Baat’, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid special emphasis on the ‘Catch the Rain’ campaign being run on water conservation. During this, he praised the remarkable work done in the field of water conservation in Sidhi and Narsinghpur districts of Madhya Pradesh and described it as inspiring for the country.
On Sunday, Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav sat with common citizens at Kanchana Ghat in the religious and tourist town of Orchha in Niwari district and listened to the Prime Minister’s ‘Mann Ki Baat’ program.
Ponds, wells, stepwells were constructed
- In the program, Prime Minister Modi said that about 1500 ponds have been constructed in Sidhi district, while Amrit Sarovars have been effectively developed and rejuvenated in Narsinghpur. He said that saving every drop of rain water is the need of the hour and it will have to be given the form of a mass movement through public participation.
- The Prime Minister appealed to the countrymen to take responsibility for the ponds, wells, stepwells and other water sources around them and play an active role in the water conservation campaign. He said that the water saved today will become the biggest asset for the secure future of the coming generations.
‘Hold water where it rains’
- Prime Minister Modi said that the basic mantra of the ‘Catch the Rain’ campaign is – “Where the rain falls, save water.” For this purpose, a special campaign is being run across the country from July 4. Under this, works like rain water harvesting, ground water recharging, revival of old water sources and tree plantation on a large scale are being given impetus.
- He said that from villages to cities, Panchayats and social organizations have actively participated in this campaign. At many places, old ponds are being cleaned and desilted, wells and stepwells are being rejuvenated, while closed borewells are being used for groundwater recharge.
- In his address, the Prime Minister also mentioned the efforts being made in the field of water conservation in Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Odisha and their positive results. He said that if every citizen takes a pledge to save water, the country can effectively combat the water crisis.
