He has won the title for a team (KKR) and his own performance has also been good. He was very close to being included in the T20 World Cup 2026 team. In my view he was an ‘excellent contender’. It was difficult to take a decision in the case of Suryakumar Yadav. To some extent, given their form and the cycle over the next two years, we felt this was the best way to move forward. Shreyas fully deserves this.
What did Ajit Agarkar say on Tilak Verma?
On making Tilak Verma the vice-captain, Ajit Agarkar said, ‘We have no doubt about his place in the team. He batted at number 5 because we had two wicketkeepers and Ishan played at number 3, so everyone else got pushed down the batting order. He played some very important innings in the T20 World Cup.
