Shiv Sena MLA Anil Babar passes away, CM Shinde cancels cabinet meeting

Maharashtra’s Shiv Sena faction’s senior leader and MLA Anil Babar passed away on Wednesday, January 31. Due to pneumonia, he was admitted to the hospital in Sangli district of Maharashtra on Tuesday, where he died during treatment. State Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has expressed grief over the death of Anil Babar.

Due to the death of Anil Babar, CM Shinde has canceled the meeting to be held on January 31. 74 year old Anil Babar was considered very close to CM Shinde. He was the MLA of Shinde faction of Shiv Sena from Khanapur assembly constituency of Sangli district.

CM expressed grief over the demise of Anil Babar

CM Shinde has shared a post on social media, in which he expressed grief over the demise of MLA Anil Babar and said that Shiv Sena has lost an effective leader. The CM said that ‘we have lost a very effective and public representative who ran the social work wing of Shiv Sena’. Along with this, CM also expressed condolences towards the family of Anil Babar.

Anil Babar became MLA four times

After the split in Shiv Sena, Anil Babar had decided to go with the nominal Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. Anil Babar’s name was at the forefront in the list given in the case of disqualification. Anil Babar was elected as MLA in 2019 on the election symbol of Shiv Sena. Anil Babar has been MLA four times in the years 1990, 1999, 2014 and 2019.

Became MLA for the first time in 1990

Anil Babar was born on 7 January 1950 in Gardi village of Khanapur taluka of Sangli. Anil Babar started his political career at the age of 19. During this period, he traveled from being a Zilla Parishad member to becoming an MLA. In the year 1990, he contested the assembly elections for the first time and won and became MLA. He also worked as president of Khanapur Panchayat Samiti from 1982 to 1990.
