The beloved 2012 rom-com Cocktail, featuring Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone and Diana Penty, is reportedly set to make a comeback with a sequel.

Directed by Homi Adajania, the original film stood out for its refreshing take on love, friendship and modern relationships. Now, over a decade later, Maddock Films is planning to revive its legacy with a brand-new cast.

According to reports, Shahid Kapoor is in talks to headline Cocktail 2. While he hasn’t officially signed the project, as per a PeepingMoon report, he has given his verbal nod to the film. If finalized, this will mark his second collaboration with Maddock Films after the 2024 movie Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya.

The sequel is set to retain its original director, Homi Adajania, who has been working closely with producer Dinesh Vijan on the project for years. The two reportedly wanted to ensure the story lives up to the magic of the original while offering something fresh. A source revealed, “Homi and Dinesh have been planning Cocktail 2 for a long time. They believe they have now created a storyline that captures the essence of the first movie while bringing something new to the table. Shahid loved the concept and is already on board.” The makers are also in discussions with popular young actresses, with Ananya Panday and Sara Ali Khan reportedly being considered for the female leads.

Released in 2012, Cocktail became an instant hit, thanks to its relatable themes, vibrant characters and a chart-topping soundtrack. The film’s portrayal of a modern love triangle resonated with audiences and solidified its place as a rom-com classic. Its sequel aims to carry forward this legacy while introducing fresh faces to the franchise. Production for Cocktail 2 is expected to begin in mid-2025. Fans of the original are eagerly awaiting more details about the cast and storyline, hoping it will recreate the magic of the original film.
