Sales data highlights the rising demand for entry-level sedans, while midsize sedans continue to struggle as SUVs sales grow
Sedan sales ended July 2026 on a positive note, with 37,728 units sold during the month. This represented a 13.96% YoY increase over the 33,106 units sold in July 2025. Sales also registered strong 20.99% MoM growth from 31,183 units in June 2026.
Sedan Sales July 2026
Maruti Suzuki Dzire continued to lead the sedan segment by a massive margin, accounting for 63.06% market share. The compact sedan sold 23,791 units in July, registering 13.86% YoY and an impressive 32.92% MoM growth. The strong monthly jump indicates healthy festive demand as well as sustained taxi and private buyer interest.
Hyundai Aura retained second position with 5,817 units, posting 25.47% YoY growth. However, sales dipped marginally by 2.68% compared to June. Honda Amaze remained the third best-selling sedan with 3,436 units. It recorded the highest YoY growth among the segment leaders at 71.03%, while also improving 16.99% over June. Tata Tigor, including EV sales, recorded 758 units, down 21.69% YoY, although volumes improved 25.91% over June. is expected in a few weeks.
Midsize sedans remain under pressure
The midsize sedan segment continued to face challenges as buyers increasingly shifted towards similarly priced SUVs. Volkswagen Virtus led this category with 1,420 units. While sales improved 18.83% MoM, they were still down 20.98% YoY compared to 1,797 units sold a year earlier.
Skoda Slavia followed with 993 units. Sales declined 14.98% YoY and 8.31% MoM, reflecting continued pressure in the segment. Hyundai Verna sold 737 units, registering a 10.77% YoY decline. However, it posted one of the strongest sequential recoveries in the segment with 33.03% MoM growth.
Honda City slipped further to 571 units, down 11.61% YoY and 23.36% MoM, highlighting the challenges faced by traditional midsize sedans. Toyota Camry remained the niche premium sedan choice with 205 units. Sales grew 27.33% YoY and 7.33% MoM, making it one of the few premium sedans to record growth on both yearly and monthly bases.
Compact sedans continue to drive the segment
Despite the overall improvement, the growth story continues to be driven almost entirely by compact sedans. Models like Dzire, Aura and Amaze dominated the segment, while midsize sedans continued to face pressure from the growing popularity of SUVs. Together, Maruti Dzire, Hyundai Aura and Honda Amaze accounted for nearly 88% of total sedan sales in July.
