Royal Enfield is keen to launch the , which is the Himalayan 411 with the LS440 engine from Scram 440. The company has identified a niche positioning below their more powerful Himalayan 450, which gets the newer and more cutting-edge Sherpa 450 liquid cooled engine.
Now, Royal Enfield has just announced the launch date of upcoming Himalayan 440 on their social media handles. Himalayan 440 will launch on 4th of September 2026 and it will bring the long stroke engine with long leggedness and relaxed character back into the Himalayan portfolio that buyers loved.
Royal Enfield Himalayan 440 Launch
When the Himalayan 450 replaced Himalayan 411, it was the pinnacle of what Royal Enfield had to offer at the time in terms of engineering, technology and equipment. It was Royal Enfield’s first offering to come with USD forks, a DOHC 4V head, liquid cooling, electronic throttle with ride-by-wire, a TFT instrument cluster, Google Maps mirroring and more.
However, what the high-revving Sherpa 450 engine lacked, was the long leggedness, the relaxed and easy character and fuel efficiency of a long stroke engine. All of these attributes are why adventure enthusiasts liked Himalayan 411. Royal Enfield has thoroughly updated this engine which now displaces 440cc and gets a 6-speed gearbox.
The first motorcycle to get this feature is Scram 440 and is now being offered with Himalayan family, based on the older Himalayan 411 design. The launch will happen on 4th of September 2026 and it will be positioned below Himalayan 450 in the portfolio.
What to expect?
If Scram 440 is anything to go by, is expected to carry forward the design of Himalayan 411 as is. The same fuel tank, windshield, upright handlebar, same aesthetics and instrument cluster might be carried forward. Even the cycle parts could be carried forward including 21-inch front wheel, tube-type tyres and long travel (200 mm) suspension.
Disc brakes at both ends with dual channel ABS with switchable function for rear ABS is likely. We wish there is an alloy wheel option with Himalayan 440 with tubeless tyres and we also wish Royal Enfield to offer the same TFT Tripper Dash with Google Maps mirroring from Himalayan 450 with Himalayan 440.
There might just be 10cc difference between Himalayan 440 and Himalayan 450, but their respective engines are polar opposite. That is because upcoming Himalayan 440 will get the same 443cc single cylinder DOHC 2V/cyl oil cooled engine as Scram 440. The latter is tuned at 25.4 bhp and 34 Nm, mated to a 6-speed gearbox.
