New Delhi [भारत]July 20 (ANI): Parliament security was beefed up on Monday and several entrances to the complex were closed as the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) protests intensified. This happened after CJP’s call for ‘Sansad Chalo’ march, in which workers and protesters gathered at Jantar Mantar. In view of the beginning of March and monsoon session, a large number of security personnel were deployed and they conducted intensive security exercises to keep the area safe.
Abhijeet Dipke broke his fast on the request of Sonam Wangchuk
Meanwhile, CJP founder Abhijit Dipke ended his indefinite hunger strike on the request of activist Sonam Wangchuk, who is currently admitted in Safdarjung Hospital. Dipke began the fast following Wangchuk’s hospitalization on July 18, when his own 21-day hunger strike required medical intervention.
CJP ready to talk to government, representatives met minister
CJP representatives Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka left to meet Union Health Minister JP Nadda on Monday, as party workers and supporters gathered at Jantar Mantar to press their demands for exam reforms. Sharing the update on his official X handle, Saurav Das said that the government had reached out for talks earlier in the day. Das wrote, “It is 11:52 am. Ashutosh Ranka and I, on behalf of the Cockroach Janata Party, are going to meet J.P. Nadda. The government had approached for talks in the morning. Our demands are clear. The youth have gathered in large numbers. We will win!”
Earlier in the day, Saurav Das indicated the organisation’s willingness to engage in talks with the government regarding its long-standing demands for examination reforms. Noting that the offer for talks from the administration came late, he said they were open to discussions to resolve the impasse surrounding the education system. Das claimed that there is no clarity from the administration despite his recent attempt to initiate talks, and said that “the ball is in their court.”
Wangchuk wants leave from hospital to join the march
Meanwhile, activist Sonam Wangchuk on Monday urged Safdarjung Hospital authorities to discharge her, citing her stable health condition, so that she can participate in the “Sansad Chalo” march. In a note shared on his official Wangchuk wrote, “This is to say that I am feeling very well today and my health parameters also look quite normal. Therefore, I request you to please allow me to leave the hospital, even if temporarily, so that I can join the Parliament march – Sansad Chalo this morning. I would be very grateful to you.”
Police lathicharged, traffic affected
Earlier, police resorted to mild lathicharge to disperse hundreds of protesters trying to march towards the Parliament House. Due to this demonstration that started at Jantar Mantar, traffic in the national capital was significantly disrupted. According to a police advisory, protest marches, processions, demonstrations and gatherings of five or more persons are prohibited without prior permission, except at the designated protest site at Jantar Mantar. In view of the monsoon session starting from today, security has been increased near the campus. (ANI)
