Usually, there is noise of movement of files and government meetings in the DM office of Nalanda. But this time the atmosphere was completely different. When the students of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (Bihar Sharif) reached the DM office on Saturday with roses in their hands, big dreams in their eyes and innocence on their faces, the entire atmosphere there changed.

The occasion was an educational tour under the ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ campaign, which became a day for these girls which they would hardly ever forget.

When the girl asked- ‘Madam, how did you become IAS?’

Nalanda DM Udita Singh talked to these girls not like a strict officer, but like a friend and guide. During the conversation, a girl very innocently asked, Madam! How did you become an IAS? So DM Sahiba also presented the story of her struggle in front of him with complete honesty.

‘Left the dream of becoming an engineer and became IAS’

He told, ‘My first dream was to become an engineer. After completing my engineering studies from IIT Delhi, I started preparing for UPSC. During this period, many times it felt as if my friends had overtaken me. But I did not lose patience, worked hard continuously and finally my dream of becoming an IAS came true.

While encouraging the girls, DM Udita Singh gave them some mantras to move ahead in life, which went straight to their hearts. She explained to the girls that struggle is never a burden. It makes us strong from within. There is no shortcut to success, so instead of being afraid of difficulties, one should face them boldly.

Giving the lesson to be fearless, the DM said that learn to express your views openly. Unless you tell about your problem, how will anyone know? She also made the girl students aware about women helpline number 181 and emergency service 112 to become empowered.

Girls demanded, DM immediately gave order

In this open environment, girls also expressed their views without any fear. He demanded to start regular classes of tailoring, beauty and wellness, dance and music in the school. The DM took immediate action on this demand of the girls and instructed the concerned officials to start this vocational training as soon as possible, so that the daughters can become self-reliant not only in studies but also in skills.

After this wonderful meeting with the DM, the girls also visited the Police Control Room, Court, One Stop Center and many government offices and saw the working there closely. At the end of the program, these daughters took a pledge that they will bring glory to their parents, Nalanda and the country by studying.
