Jagannath Temple Gates: Every year, the Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath is taken out on the second day of Shukla Paksha of Ashadh month. The chariots of elder brother Balabhadra and Subhadra ji are also with him. This is one of the oldest and main festivals of Odisha. During the Rath Yatra, a huge crowd of devotees gather at the temple of Jagannath in Puri. This year this holy Rath Yatra will be taken out on 16th July. During this time the Lord will visit the temple of his aunt Gundicha Devi.
There is a religious belief that by pulling the ropes of the chariots during the Rath Yatra, all the sins committed knowingly or unknowingly are destroyed. Along with this one attains salvation. Jagannath Rath Yatra is not only considered a religious festival but also a festival of union of devotee and God. There are secrets hidden in the temple of God, from his statue to the doors of the temple. The temple has four doors, which are said to be related to four eras.
lion gate
First of all let’s talk about the east side gate of the temple. This is called Singh Dwar. This is the main gate of the temple and is said to be a symbol of salvation. It is believed that when devotees enter through this gate, their soul becomes pure. In front of this gate is the famous Arun Stambh. There is a statue of Arun Dev, the charioteer of Lord Surya, on it. It is believed that seeing it brings auspicious results.
horse gate
The second gate of the temple is called Ashwa Dwar or Vijay Dwar. In ancient times, kings going to war used to come to the temple at this door and pray to Lord Jagannath for victory. That is why it is considered a symbol of victory. This second gate of the temple is in the south direction.
celebrity gate
The third gate of the temple is Hasti Dwar. That means elephant gate. This door is considered a symbol of prosperity and happiness. The idol of Lord Ganesha is present at this gate. Entering through this door is believed to bring wealth, knowledge and good fortune in life. This gate of the temple is in the west direction.
tiger gate
The fourth gate of the temple is Vyaghra Dwar, which is also called Bagh Dwar. This gate is situated in the north direction of the temple. It is dedicated to the Narasimha incarnation of Lord Vishnu. This gate is considered a symbol of religion and protection.
According to Hindu religious beliefs, these four gates of Jagannath temple represent Satyayuga, Tretayuga, Dwaparayuga and Kaliyuga.
