According to reports, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has put the clearance certificate of Salman Khan’s film ‘Mathrubhoomi’ on hold till further orders. After the teaser was released, many users on China’s social media platform Weibo alleged that the Galwan Valley conflict has been shown in a different manner from the facts in the film. On this controversy, India’s Ministry of External Affairs had said in January, “The matters related to films in India are handled by the concerned authorities. The Ministry of External Affairs has no role in this.”
What is the story of ‘Mathrubhoomi’ based on?
‘Mathrubhoomi’, earlier titled ‘Battle of Galwan’, is based on the backdrop of the 2020 Galwan Valley conflict. In the film, Salman Khan played the role of Colonel Santosh Babu, who was the commanding officer of 16 Bihar Regiment. He led the Indian troops during the disengagement process on the border.
However, it has also been claimed in some reports that after the intervention of the Indian government, not only the title of the film was changed, but its story was also changed and references related to China were removed from it. This means that now this film will be based on a fictional story instead of a true incident.
