Salman Khan opened up about a little-known chapter in his parents’ love story, revealing that his maternal grandfather didn’t speak to his father, veteran screenwriter Salim Khan, for five years after his marriage to Sushila Charak, aka Salma Khan. On Bigg Boss 20’s Weekend Ka Vaar, Salman clarified that the disagreement had nothing to do with religion. The family rift eventually ended after the birth of Salman’s younger brother Sohail Khan, prompting an emotional reconciliation.
Grandfather’s objection not about religion

Salman stressed that religion was not the reason behind the disagreement. Recalling his grandfather’s concerns, he said, “Jab mere mata-pita ki shaadi hui, toh usmein koi religious connotation nahi tha. Usmein sirf jo mere nana the, woh is baat se upset the ki yaar, inki shaadi ek good-looking aadmi se ho rahi hai, jo actor banna chah raha hai aur film industry mein hai.”
He explained that his grandfather’s objection was rooted in the uncertainty surrounding the profession Salim had chosen. The fact that his daughter was marrying a good-looking man who wanted to become an actor was what worried him. “Uske upar se aitraaz tha,” Salman recalled, explaining that his grandfather was concerned about how his daughter would adjust to the environment of the film industry. “Nana ka yeh tha ki meri beti is mahaul mein kaise rahegi.”

The rift reportedly led to a five-year estrangement between Salim Khan and Salman’s maternal grandfather. “Unhone mere papa se paanch saal baat nahi ki,” he said. Aaye, phir unhone yeh regret dikhaya ki mujhse bahut badi galti hui ki I have missed my grandchildren growing up.”
Salman claimed that as he thought back to the time, his grandfather admitted that he had made a mistake by being away from his grandkids for so long. He said he regretted missing the formative years and the opportunity to spend time with Salim Khan who Salman regarded as the “nicest man on earth.”
