Cooperation Minister Amit Shah told the Lok Sabha on Tuesday that till last month, about Rs 8,800 crore had been returned to more than 40 lakh depositors of Sahara Group’s cooperative societies.

Amit Shah, in a written reply to the question, said that till February 2026, investors have made 1.45 crore applications and 4.06 crore claims on the CRCS-Sahara Refund Portal. Rs 8,783.55 crore has been returned to 40,33,448 investors of Sahara Group of Cooperative Societies.
The refund process is going on as per the orders of the Supreme Court. Shah said, applications received on the portal are scrutinized in a transparent manner. Payment is credited directly to the genuine depositors’ Aadhaar-linked bank account on submission of proof of identity and deposit amount.
Payment continues through CRCS portal
At present, every genuine depositor is being paid up to Rs 50,000 through Aadhaar linked bank account after verified claims. Depositors have been asked to resubmit their applications in case of any deficiencies in the application.
The Supreme Court has ordered that an additional amount of Rs 5,000 crore be transferred from the ‘Sahara-SEBI Refund Account’ to the Registrar of Central Cooperative Societies and depositors be given time till December 31, 2026 for refund.
