Adani Green Energy Executive Director Sagar Adani on Wednesday said any possible move by the UAE to withdraw from OPEC or OPEC+ could be “completely beneficial” for India, and stressed the important role of energy in building economic strength. Speaking during ‘The Economist Impact Resilient Futures Summit’ in New Delhi, Adani said the global implications of such a move are still uncertain. He said only time will tell whether this will cause disruption or stability in the world’s energy markets, adding that India’s strong geopolitical ties with the UAE could work in its favour.
Adani links strength with energy
Highlighting India’s energy challenges, Adani said in a statement that in today’s world, strength is increasingly being defined by access to reliable and affordable energy. He said that in this century, access to energy will define strength, and pointed to how disruptions ranging from conflicts to market shocks can have far-reaching effects on all the world’s economies. He pointed out that per capita energy consumption in India is much lower than the global average, and stressed the need for structural expansion of energy capacity. According to him, India may need to add about 2,000 GW of energy capacity in the next two decades to meet its growth targets, as well as ensure affordability and sustainability.
What was emphasized?
Adani called for a diversified “portfolio approach” to energy, combining renewable, hydro, thermal and nuclear sources to ensure stable baseload power. He also stressed the importance of electrification and reducing dependence on imported energy to strengthen long-term economic stability. Referring to the role of Adani Group, he said that the group is investing in the areas of renewable energy, storage, transition and green hydrogen as part of an integrated strategy to create the energy backbone of India. He further said that policy continuity and growth in infrastructure development over the past decade have created a favorable environment for increased energy investment, which will be critical to maintaining India’s growth and strength.
