The Calcutta High Court has upheld the decision of the West Bengal government, in which strict rules were imposed on the slaughter of large animals before Bakrid. A bench of Chief Justice Sujay Paul and Justice Partha Sarathi Sen dismissed all the petitions, saying the government order was in line with the old court directions of 2018. Under the new rules, a doctor’s fitness certificate will be mandatory before slaughter of bull, bull, cow, calf and buffalo, in which it should be clearly written that the animal is no longer fit for farming or carrying goods. Slaughter will not be allowed without certificate and this process can be done only in recognized slaughter houses.
