For the last three days, the Income Tax Department has been raiding a distillery group (different companies related to the liquor manufacturing group) in Odisha. Today, on the third day of the raid, 156 bags full of cash have been recovered. There are allegations of tax evasion against the distillery group.
Today, on the third day, around Rs 20 crore have been counted. In this way, the Income Tax Department has so far recovered a total of Rs 220 crore. These raids of Income Tax Department are going on in Sambalpur, Bolangir, Titilagarh, Boudh, Sundargarh, Rourkela and Bhubaneswar. The distillery company has not yet responded to the raid.
‘Never seen so much cash recovered’
Baldev Sahu & Group of Companies operates from Western Odisha and is one of the largest liquor manufacturing and selling companies in the country. Around Rs 200 crore in cash was seized yesterday during a raid at its Bolangir office in Odisha. Former IT Commissioner Sharat Chandra Das has said that this could be the biggest cash seizure ever by the Income Tax Department in Odisha. Das has said that he has never seen such a huge amount of cash recovered in the state.
