The name “Hummer” instantly reminds us of a fuel-guzzling humongous SUV that is one of the most capable SUVs off-road. However, the Hummer on sale today does not need any fuel, as it is all-electric. But the rest of the stuff remains the same – powerful, massive and a great off-roader. And to help this elephant-of-an-SUV go off-road, the brand offers a plethora of features, but the one that is the most popular is the “Crabwalk”. While it looks very cool, it serves very well when you’re stuck in a sticky situation. But features like these can only be offered in extremely expensive SUVs, right? Well, we have found a Rs 15 lakh Japanese SUV that can crabwalk just like the Hummer but at a much lower cost! Here’s how.
Maruti Jimny Modified!

That’s right! We came across a Maruti Suzuki Jimny that has been heavily modified and can literally do the Crabwalk. The folks at Flywheel International, a YouTube channel, had made a video regarding this Jimny, and we thought it was noteworthy. This particular Jimny has been equipped with an electronically controlled rear axle, which is controlled by two buttons inside the cabin. Using this mechanism, the rear axle or the rear wheels of the Jimny can move in the same direction as the front wheels, which allows it to crabwalk around rough terrain. This rear axle system can also be turned off whenever you want.
The best part about this system is that not only will this allow the Jimny to obliterate tough obstacles off-road, but also help in parallel parking in tight spaces without much manoeuvring. This is a very cool feature to have for practicality as well as off-road fun. But that’s not all! This Jimny has been thoroughly modified for better off-road performance. It gets a lift kit, a snorkel, an off-road-ready front bumper and grille, upgraded wheels with off-road tyres, a jerry can, and the list goes on. It is unclear whether this Jimny has any modifications to the engine for more power. So, what else does this Jimny have to offer?
What Else?

The Maruti Jimny is already quite a capable machine in tough terrains. However, it only gets essential features like a 9-inch touchscreen, cruise control, automatic climate control and a few more. At the heart of the matter is a 1.5-litre NA petrol engine producing 103bhp and 134Nm of torque along with either a 5-speed MT or a 4-speed AT. The highlight of the Jimny is a full-time 4X4 system with a transfer case to switch between 2L, 2H and 4L, along with hill descent control, 210mm of ground clearance and impressive approach and departure angles, best suited for off-roading. Priced between Rs 15.01 lakh and Rs 17.58 lakh (on-road, Mumbai), this is one of the best lifestyle SUVs you can buy, and with such modifications, the Jimny is going to be a hoot to drive.
