MG Starlight 560 Launch – What’s New

The MG Starlight 560 will be one such exciting launch happening this month. Not because of the 3-row seating to fit in 7 humans, but because it will be a PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid) model. Something that Indian’s aren’t aware of currently. For those who doesn’t knows about what a PHEV is  – it is just like the strong hybrids, but with a larger battery capacity, and works along with a petrol engine to increase the overall range. Something like a CNG, where you will need to charge the battery as well just like EVs, and also you would need to fill in the petrol – the advantage will be increased range.

Now, the Starlight 560 will be introducing this new segment in India. The SUV will be powered by a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine paired with a 20.5kWh battery pack. The availability of the an battery pack with the petrol engine helps to increase the overall range by more than 1000km (claimed). This acts as a perfect alternative for those who have a range anxiety for buying an EV. While the overall mileage might look like a huge number, we can eventually expect the model to deliver a mileage of nearly of 20-25kmpl depending on the driving behaviour. So, it will also be a good car for those who want a loaded 7-seater and also crave for a good mileage figure.

What Else?

Well, the PHEV wouldn’t be the only highlight of this 7-seater. There’s a lot more to it. The SUV features a long stance – it is 4.75m long SUV. The feature suite includes a a 12.8-inch infotainment system, 8.8-inch digital driver’s display, powered and ventilated front seats, 6-speaker sound system, wireless charging, panoramic sunroof, automatic climate control, rear vents, 6-airbags as standard, electronic parking brake, ADAS, TPMS, hill-hold assist, and more in its package. So actually you don’t compromise on the behalf of features too.

The SUV is set to launch on 16th July. Pricing-wise, we expect the model to range between Rs 18 lakh and Rs 30 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). Being a PHEV model, the pricing could be affected eventually, but if MG tries to price it aggressively, it can generate good sales for the brand.
